Dalyan is a charming small town located about 30 minutes from Dalaman Airport. The town itself is on a river and there are many restaurants along the river to choose from.
Dalyan is surrounded by Mountains and has wonderful views of the famous Rock Tombs which look great when lit up in the evenings, whilst sitting at one of the many quiet bars or restaurants.
There is a wide selection of shops, a Mosque in the centre of town, a Post Office, a Bank, A Bus (Dolmus) station, various Taxi Ranks and a few Supermarkets located around the town.
There are many lovely peaceful areas to sit and relax on or near to the river.
The weekly Market is on a Saturday in Dalyan, where you can find fresh local produce being sold directly by the farmers and also a wide range of Turkish Delight, Spices, Clothing and Shoes.
There are various Daily Excursions from Dalyan by either boat or road to all of the local areas.
Dalyan History
The name 'Dalyan' come from the Crawls and dates back to the 19th Century.
A Crawl is a Fish Trap or Fishing Station. You can see the Crawls on the way to Iztuzu Beach by boat.
Over the past century Dalyan became a fishing village due to the Bass, Mullet and Sea Bream swimming upstream from the Sea towards Koycegiz Lake.
Dalyan is a highly fertile area with many different types of Fruit and Vegetables being grown here alongside the many Cotton Fields.
Dalyan achieved fame in 1986 when developers wanted to build a Hotel on Iztuzu Beach which is the breeding ground for the rare Caretta Caretta Sea Turtles. World renowned Environmental Campaigner David Bellamy stepped in to appeal and mounted a successful campaign to stop any building on the beach. Iztuzu was then designated an Environmentally Protected Area.
